Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park is a striking showcase of the B.C.’s coastal beauty — a slender, 2-km sandy spit on Quadra Island that curves between the calm waters of Drew Harbour and the open channels of the Salish Sea. This park’s beaches, intertidal zones, and sheltered marine waters support kelp forests, eelgrass beds, and tidal pools which teem with life and help sustain a dynamic food web. In the waters surrounding the Discovery Islands you may see marine mammals such as killer whales, humpback whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, harbour porpoises, and harbour seals, drawn here by the abundant forage fish and salmon that migrate through this nutrient-rich area. Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park sits within the traditional and unceded territories of the We Wai Kai First Nation, also known as the Cape Mudge First Nation, who are members of the Laich-kwil-tach (Kwakwa ka ’wakw) peoples. The We Wai Kai First Nation maintain deep connections to the lands and waters of Quadra Island and surrounding areas.
WHERE THE WHALES ARE
Marine mammals might be seen from anywhere in the park. This Whale Trail sign is located at the Northern information shelter next to the parking lot.
