Nestled at the entrance to Desolation Sound in the unceeded territories of the Klahoose, Tla’amin and Homalco Nations, Cortes Island lies at the doorstep of the breathtaking fjords that penetrate British Columbia’s wild coast. The wilderness spirit of the island is evident at every turn; bald eagles roost in the tufts of the cedar trees, resident wolves roam its dense forests, and marine mammals are abundant in the surrounding waters year-round. Keep an eye out for Bigg’s (transient) killer whales cruising the shoreline, hunting for seals and other marine mammals. Humpback whales are also a common sight from spring to fall.
