Another Whale Goes Free! Rescuers disentangled a young humpback whale  in Desolation Sound BC last week. Congratulations to Paul Cottrell (DFO) and everyone who had a hand in the rescue. Anyone who sees a whale or dolphin in distress in BC should call the B.C. First Nations Occupy Fish Farms. “A group of First Nations and environmentalists are occupying a salmon farm near Alert Bay, B.C., and say they won’t leave until the provincial and federal governments revoke permits for the facility.” Read more at CBC.

K-13 Disappears. Chris Dunagan reports that K-13 (Skagit) is missing, according to the Center for Whale Research. Skagit was a 45-year-old female member of K pod. With her presumed death, the southern resident orca population now consists of 77 individuals.
