The Seattle Aquarium is an educational facility located in downtown Seattle overlooking Elliott Bay.  Visit the six major exhibits: Window on Washington Waters, Life on the Edge, Pacific Coral Reef, Puget Sound Fish and Dome Room, Puget Sound Orcas Family Activity Center, and Marine Mammals.

Focusing on conservation, the Seattle Aquarium’s goal is to have each visitor come away with new knowledge about the life dwelling within the Sound, as well as what can be done to help preserve it.  You can find The Whale Trail sign on the finger pier connecting two exhibit halls with great views of the Olympic Mountains and opportunities to view marine mammals.

Outside the walls of the aquarium staff biologists conduct critical research on a variety of Puget Sound species including: giant Pacific octopus, sixgill sharks, and Alaskan sea otters.

In the summer months, you can visit over 100 Beach Naturalist volunteers at local beaches during low-tide weekends to explore the marine environment right in your backyard and learn how everyday actions affect Puget Sound.

WHERE THE WHALES ARE

Although orcas are rarely seen from the Seattle Aquarium, there is great opportunity to see harbor seals, Dall’s porpoise, and harbor porpoises.
