Twenty years ago, a young orca was discovered in Puget Sound – lost, alone and 300 miles away from home. Over the next six months, government agencies, nonprofits and businesses worked together to return her to her pod. Today Springer is thriving, with two calves of her own and another on the way. When she was here, we couldn’t foresee how much she would change our lives – and history.

Listen to Springer’s story as told by reporter Bellamy Pailthorp for KNKX. It’s a wonderful start to this anniversary year. A good story just keeps getting better!

An orphaned orca brought a community together — and still inspires 20 years after her rescue

Enjoy! And learn more about Springer in my book “Orca Rescue’

With hope for orcas!
