The Whale Trail is a collaboration. Anyone who shares our mission and goals is welcome to join us. Whatever your level of interest, skill, income and time, there is something that you can do. Here is a list of ideas to get you started. Tell us what you want to do, or what we left off!

1. Help maintain site(s) in your area (partner w/site managers)

2. Nominate a site!

Do you know of a site that should be on The Whale Trail? Tell us about it! Send info to info@thewhaletrail.org

To be on The Whale Trail, a site should meet the following criteria:

• Viewing locations: be accessible to the public, and provide a reasonable chance of seeing orcas or other whales with reliable frequency during at least part of the year. May also be a place that is historically or culturally significant regarding orcas.

• Educational facilities that have a specific focus on orcas, other marine mammals and their habitat, and conservation.

3. Become a Whale Trail Site Steward

• Get up to speed in orca and other marine mammal biology, issues, and stewardship practices.

• Serve as point person in your community.

• Help maintain the Whale Trail web page for one or more sites in your region.

• Lead a community-wide stewardship plan/commitments

• Serve as guide for visiting schools/groups

• Identify new partners and supporters in your community

4. Lead a stewardship project in your community

• Organize a group to help remove invasive plants; commit to nontoxic products, etc. We can provide you with plenty of ideas to get started!

5. Tell your friends and family about The Whale Trail!

• Host a Whale Trail table at a fair or event in your community

6. Take the lead to help us develop and implement a Whale Trail program:

• Geocaching program (what does it take, how much does it cost)

• Lockbox program for kids

• Community art at Whale Trail locations

7. Help Develop Whale Trail Website

Are you a computer programmer? Would you like to help us build some great games and educational tools for our website? We need you!
